CarPlay's new map is awesome, auto-routing my grocery trips! I love DIY Openwrt, a great escape. Missed a huge housing lottery, maybe no luck there. Vietnam trip again - Nha Trang is hot, but fun for families!

Summary

CarPlay's enhanced map, OpenWrt customization, a lost housing opportunity, and a sweltering trip to Nha Trang, Vietnam filled my days. I appreciate Apple's small touches, enjoyed compiling my router firmware, missed out on a desired apartment, and found Nha Trang's tourist vibe a mixed experience.

CarPlay

Upgraded to the latest CarPlay and the newest iOS 13 map, and it's incredibly powerful. Around lunchtime, I went out to buy groceries as usual (at about the same time), and when I started the car, the CarPlay map automatically suggested the route from home to the market and showed traffic conditions. I don't think that's a new feature, but this update made the whole process feel much more seamless. Apple really is a great company; sometimes, it's the little details that impress you.

Openwrt

I'm not really comfortable with firmware compiled online, and I'm not satisfied with the stock OpenWrt firmware either, so I decided to compile my own. Using L's open-source version, it went smoothly and I compiled it for my router model. It's been a while since I've had that hands-on tinkering feeling. When work gets busy, time just becomes more and more precious. But the busier I get, the more I feel I should carve out some time to retreat into my own world and tinker with things. It lets my brain empty out for a bit, and I can quietly enjoy the process. Maybe it's a way to de-stress.

Emerald City

Recently, my wife also participated in the lottery for Wutong County in Emerald City. There were nearly 20,000 people in the draw, which is scary to think about. The location of Wutong County is pretty good, next to Metro Line 3, and it's a Greentown development. We'd actually gone to see Emerald City several times before, and each time we missed out on buying it. Then, when we finally wanted to buy, the prices were already beyond what we'd expected. This time we didn't win the lottery either, so it seems like we're really not meant to live in Emerald City.

Nha Trang

Three years ago, I went to Da Nang once and swore I'd never go back. Turns out, our team outing this time ended up in Nha Trang. So, I'm definitely eating my words. Whether it's Da Nang or Nha Trang, it's just too hot, so the real activity time is from 4 PM until late at night. Basically, you don't want to go out during the day. After a few days, my skin was so burnt it hurt. These two trips to Vietnam really made me feel how fast the country is developing.

Nha Trang is a classic tourist city. You'll see people from all over the world, especially tourists from China, Russia, and South Korea. Prices have also gone up, although sometimes you still feel like things are really cheap. Compared to Da Nang, the level of Chinese spoken here is much higher. At the hotel we stayed at, if you talked to the lobby manager in English, he would quickly realize you were Chinese and start speaking to you in Mandarin. So, if you want a relaxing vacation, Nha Trang is really enjoyable. It's perfect for couples or families to go together, feel the tropical sea breeze, and the endless sandy beach.
